Large haul of illegal fireworks seized in Mayo Garda operation

A substantial quantity of illegal fireworks has been seized by Castlebar Gardaí following a search of a property as part of Operation Tombola.

The Garda operation, which targets the importation, sale and use of illegal fireworks in the lead-up to Halloween, resulted in the recovery of a significant haul of pyrotechnics during a recent search in the Castlebar area.

Gardaí have issued a warning to the public about the dangers associated with fireworks, highlighting that every year people suffer serious injuries and damage to property as a result of their misuse.

“Every year at this time, we see significant injuries to people and property, along with the distress it causes, through the use of these illegal fireworks,” a Garda statement on social media said.

Officers have urged the public not to purchase or use illegal fireworks, reminding people that it is an offence to possess them.

“We continue our efforts to remove as many as possible from circulation in our community, and we ask that members of the public do not purchase illegal fireworks,” gardaí added.

They are also appealing to anyone with information regarding the sale or use of illegal fireworks to contact their local Garda station.
