Mayo woman running Dublin Marathon in memory of late brother

A MAYO woman is hitting the streets of Dublin this weekend in a marathon challenge in memory of her late brother.

Maria Dolan, from Castlebar, is running the Dublin Marathon on Sunday in memory of her brother Barry, who died in September, raising funds for the hospice where he spent his final days.

On her GoFundMe page, Maria explains how in the last few weeks she lost her beloved brother Barry at age 41.

“He loved fitness and exercise, he was a big influence for me when getting interested in running, and was always so supportive and encouraging,” she said.

“I am completing the Dublin Marathon this year in his memory and honour.

“Having missed the training block, I considered pulling out but have decided to go ahead in the hopes of raising some funds for the wonderful hospice in Hamburg, Germany, that looked after him and all of us so well in his final weeks, Hamburger Hospiz am Deich, so they can continue their good work and support other families who find themselves in this unfortunate situation.”

Maria has nearly reached the target for her online fundraiser and with your support, she can get over this first finish line, with all donations going directly to the hospice so they can continue their vital work.
