Leading Mayo GAA Club expresses sorrow over death of former player
Castlebar Mitchels GAA Club has expressed its sorrow over the passing of former player and valued club member, John Dolan.
In his late 20s, John, a son of Paul and Martine Dolan, Knockaphuna Park, Castlebar, died peacefully yesterday at Jules Bordet Hospital, Brussels, following a short illness, surrounded by his loving family.
The news has cast a dark shadow of grief over the community at large.
In a tribute, Castlebar Mitchels said: "It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of John Dolan, a former junior and underage player with Castlebar Mitchels, and brother of current senior player Mark Dolan.
"John was a valued member of our club community and will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
"All at Castlebar Mitchels GAA Club extends our deepest sympathies to the Dolan family at this difficult time."
The deceased, who had been based in Belgium, is also survived by his sister, Jessica, brother-in-law Michael, Mark's girlfriend Ceara, uncles, aunts, cousins, extended family and many close friends, to whom heartfelt sympathy is tendered.
John, a past pupil of St. Gerald's College and St. Patrick's National School (now Castlebar Primary School), was a widely popular, talented and much-loved young man.
