Eight vehicles seized by Mayo gardaí in major road safety clampdown

Eight vehicles have been seized by gardaí in Mayo under section 41 of the Road Traffic Act.

The action was taken as part of major county-wide clampdown involving increased patrols, checkpoints and targeted enforcement efforts to ensure the safety of all road users.

The following actions have been reported:

* Eight vehicle's seized under section 41 of the Road Traffic Act.

* One motorist arrested for drink driving after been observed driving on the wrong side of the road. Driver was over legal limit.

* Another motorist arrested for drink driving after been detected for no insurance. Driver was over legal limit.

*A number of fixed charged penalty notices were issued for exceeding the speed limit, having no NCT, having no L-plates displayed, driving unaccompanied, no novice plates displayed, driving without due care and attention, breaking a red traffic light, no tax and non conforming number plates.

* A road traffic stop in Castlebar resulted in a quantity of suspected cocaine and cannabis being seized with an estimated value of €8000 pending analysis. A quantity of cash was also seized.

Two males were arrested and detained in relation to the seizure.

Investigations are ongoing.
