Councillor raises design issues on N5 in Mayo

TWO design issues on the N5 dual carriageway between Turlough and Westport have been highlighted at a municipal meeting. They relate to the roundabouts and the lack of laybys.

Councillor Johnny O'Malley has described some of the new roundabouts as 'death traps'.

You nearly have to turn back to get into the left lane, he explained, and there are accidents happening.

The route also doesn't have enough laybys, he added.

He saw a person changing a wheel on the side of the road. Lucky enough it was an inside wheel but if it was an outside one, they would in the middle of the lane.

It was deadly and needs to be looked at, said Councillor O’Malley
