Padel tennis courts proposal at Mayo club
CASTLEBAR Tennis Club is developing new facilities at its base in Knockacroghery in the county town.
The club proposes to construct three new padel tennis courts with an artificial grass surface. The plans include 4m high fencing around sections of the courts' perimeter and 6m high lighting posts.
Padel tennis is a growing sport in Ireland and the club wishes to provide facilities for members to have access to it.
In documentation submitted with their planning application to Mayo County Council, the club explains how there are a number of padel courts already established in other tennis clubs around the country.
The development would provide enhanced facilities for the club and it's expected it would result in a minor increase in membership numbers for people who want to avail of padel tennis.
The existing car park, which includes 85 spaces, is more than sufficient to cater for the existing membership of 265 members, with allowance for reasonable growth.
