Progress on new Mayo industrial park sites and slip road
EXPRESSIONS of interest for new sites in Westport Industrial Park have been sought by Mayo County Council.
A slip road, which will alleviate traffic on the Golf Course Road in the town, is part of the planned 12-unit extension. Tenders have been received and assessed.
Councillor Peter Flynn voiced some frustration, as did his colleagues, about the project, saying he couldn't understand why they are going out for expressions of interest, with people kicking their doors for commercial sites in Mayo.
He requested a monthly update on their agenda on where the project is at.
They had been told the slip road would be done and opened in conjunction with the new housing on the Golf Course Road, added Councillor Johnny O'Malley, but there are still sheep grazing on the site.
He wanted to know where the road is at and when will it be in place and fit to use.
Members were told expressions of interest are open with a local valuer, which will be a very short process, and then the project will move forward in Q1 of next year.
The council view was that this was one full project, with the road part of the overall extension, and it's ready to go now.
The project will take a minimum of 13 months.
