Everything they say is true: US TV host praises county Mayo
Famed US talk show host Jimmy Kimmel has sung the praises of county Mayo after a recent family visit to his ancestral home.
Speaking on his ABC late-night show, Kimmel told viewers that his family had a “delightful” time exploring Mayo.
The Connaught Telegraph has learned that the comedian who was involved in a high profile dispute with US administration last month, stayed and frequented the picturesque village of Cong in the south of the county.
Kimmel, one of the most recognisable figures in US television, travelled to Ireland last week with family members to reconnect with relatives in the west.
He described the trip as a heartwarming experience filled with Irish hospitality.
During their stay, Kimmel’s niece accidentally left her purse behind in a local pub.
“She drove it [the purse] to the hotel, and then refused to accept money for it,” Kimmel told his audience. “The woman seemed confused that my niece would even offer money for her returning it.”
He joked that such an act of kindness might have gone very differently back home in America.
“They don’t know that we would have more of a hostage-type situation,” he quipped to his live studio audience.
Kimmel went on to say that his family’s time in Mayo was nothing short of positive, adding that he hadn’t had a single bad experience during the visit.
“Everything [good] that they say about the Irish people is true,” he said.
The village of Cong, famed for its role in The Quiet Man, has once again charmed international visitors, this time, one of the biggest names in American entertainment.
