Minister Dillon welcomes €97,000 community safety fund for Mayo
Minister of State Alan Dillon TD has welcomed funding of €97,062 for the Safe Ireland Safe and Together Project in Mayo.
The €4.4 million in funding through the Community Safety Fund, will support 42 community safety projects nationwide.
The Community Safety Fund redirects proceeds of crime seized by the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) and An Garda Síochána back into local communities, ensuring that resources recovered from criminal activity are reinvested to strengthen safety and wellbeing.
This year’s allocation marks a 33% increase on the €3 million awarded in 2024 and nearly doubles the number of projects funded since the Fund’s inception in 2022.
Minister Dillon said: “I am delighted to see Mayo benefit from this year’s Community Safety Fund.
The €97,062 awarded to Safe Ireland and An Garda Síochána for the Safe and Together Project will make a real difference in supporting families impacted by domestic violence and promoting trauma-informed approaches to safety.
This is a powerful example of how national funding can directly support local needs.”
Funded projects this year span a wide range of themes, including: Domestic, sexual and gender-based violence (DSGBV), drug-related intimidation and addiction recovery, violence reduction and offender reintegration, youth outreach and trauma-informed community supports and Initiatives for minority and marginalised groups.
Local Community Safety Partnerships are being established across Ireland, with currently being set up by Mayo County Council to help identify safety priorities and align funding with community needs.
It will be tasked with developing a tailored Local Community Safety Plan to address the specific safety needs across Mayo.
Minister Dillon concluded: “This funding is a testament to the power of collaboration between government, law enforcement, and community organisations.
I look forward to seeing the positive outcomes of the Safe and Together Project in Mayo and the broader impact of the Community Safety Fund nationwide.”
