Bubble show first for Mayo and Ireland
IRELAND’S first ever fully qualified bubbleologist, Mayo's Finn Jesch, is performing the World Premiere of his show The Drop - Bubble Science Show at Westport Town Hall on Saturday, November 15.
Finn, from Turlough, is the first person in the country to be recognised by the International Bubble Artistes Association - the governing body that regulates the art - and the first person to create a bubble show in Ireland.
Finn believes that bubbles are so much more than toys that burst at birthday parties.
“Bubbles are tiny mirrors of the universe, fragile yet full of the forces that shape our world,” he explains. “Each shimmering sphere reveals the invisible science of surface tension and cohesion, the delicate balance that holds its shape.”
It was his artistry combined with science that led Dea Birkett, director of Circus Science by the Sea Festival held each Science Week on Achill Island and in Westport, to snap up this world premiere of The Drop for the festival.
“Finn is not just a children’s entertainer,” she said. “He comes from a circus background so is a highly skilled performer. And as a scientist, he can explain to us the mysteries of how bubbles work, from how light waves create the dancing colours to why they burst.
“Finn turn simple soap and water into moments of revelation and wonder.”
The Drop is part of an exciting line up for this year’s Circus Science by the Sea festival, including Achill Sound’s audio visual show Basking Sharks.
The festival is run by Achill-based circus creation and touring company Circus250 and funded by Research Ireland. Details of the full programme running from November 14-16 can be found at www.circus250.org, text (086) 2432107, or email bigtop@circus250.org.
