Death of retired Mayo teacher and school principal

The death of Paul Murphy, Breaffy Road, Castlebar, and late of Killough, Co. Down, is deeply regretted in the community.

A widely popular personality, he died peacefully on Saturday in the Mater Private Hospital, Dublin, surrounded by his loving family.

Paul was retired principal of St. Bríd’s Special School, Castlebar, and teacher in St. Joseph's Secondary School, Castlebar.

The deceased served as a director of the former Castlebar Song Contest.

Tributes on social media have described him as 'a true gentleman'.

Paul is deeply regretted by heartbroken wife Laurena (Harney), sons Conor (Drogheda) and Gerard (Isle of Man), daughter Eimíle (Drogheda), brothers Dr. Richard (Belfast), Prof. Philip (Dublin) and Dr. Malachy (Dublin), sister Aoibhínn (Foley, Carlow), sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, daughters-in-law Claire and Jessica, son-in-law James, grandchildren Laurena, Shane, Cillian, Cathal, Joe, Lara and Rory, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends, to whom sympathy is tendered.

Paul was predeceased by his parents Dr. Gerry and Kitty Murphy.

Paul will repose at his residence tomorrow (Tuesday) from 4.30 to 6 p.m. with removal from his residence on Wednesday morning at 10.30 a.m for Requiem Mass at 11.30 a.m. in St. Aloysius Church, Breaffy.

He will be laid to rest afterwards in Kilgeever Cemetery, Louisburgh.
