Ballyhaunis Bears to make Mayo basketball history

History will be made in Mayo basketball this evening (Tuesday) as Ballyhaunis Bears take to the court for the first time in the regional league.

They face Ballina Braves in the Ballyhaunis Community School sports hall. Tip-off is at 8.30 p.m.

Under the name The Devils Basketball Club, there are a number of teams coming through at underage level in Ballyhaunis, and the club has been hugely active having been established some 10 years ago.

It was felt the time had come for the men to step up to the plate and enter the LLR League, which is composed of teams from Mayo, Sligo and Roscommon.

Ballina have entered a development team in this competition in an effort to give more game time to the young players, so it should be an interesting game.

The Braves will be favourites to take the points from this clash but you can expect a big battle from the home side, who have been working and training hard for their home league debut.
