Tireless Mayo community volunteer to receive special distinction
A Mayo community volunteer is being honoured with a Mayo People of the Year award.
Kieran Mulhern is a man whose dedication, spirit and generosity embody the very heart of Crossmolina.
He is a tireless worker for the community.
His involvement in countless local events and fundraising efforts has made Crossmolina a better and brighter place.
Whether its through his vital role in the Crossmolina Agricultural Show or Vision 2025, Kieran’s energy and enthusiasm inspire all who work alongside him.
What makes Kieran’s contribution even more remarkable is his strength and resilience in the face of personal tragedy.
The loss of his beloved son, Brian, was a heartbreak that would stop many in their tracks.
Yet, with immense courage, Kieran continues to give back, honouring Brian's memory through his selfless commitment to others.
Kieran was involved with the Crossmolina Community Council in acquiring a site and building four industrial units which are now let out to start-up companies.
The income from this has allowed the community council to purchase land which will be developed with independent living accommodation for the elderly and a second GAA pitch.
Kieran together with his family and the community restarted the St. Stephens Day swim at Lough Conn and raised €22,000 for counselling services in Ballina Family Resource Centre, for Cancer Care West, Crossmolina, Meals on Wheels and Mayo Suicide Bereavement Support at the Family Life Centre in Castlebar.
The 31st Mayo People of the Year Awards will be presented at the gala banquet in Breaffy House Hotel, Castlebar, on Friday night, November 21.
The event is organised by RehabCare, Mayo County Council and The Connaught Telegraph.
