Mayo's popular Jalopy Bar marks one year since opening its hatch
Monday next, November 17, marks one year since the Jalopy Bar first opened its hatch outside Connacht Flooring in the Moneen Industrial Estate in Castlebar.
The quaint coffee truck is a converted vintage Citroen HY van and has built up quite a following over the past twelve months.
Owners Mark and Wiebke took up their regular spot in the bustling business park in November 2024.
“We had to weather some storms since then – literally”, Mark joked.
Snow and high winds might have meant a few closed days throughout the winter months, but the couple’s dedication and commitment to deliver the perfect cup to busy workers every day persevered.
Because the truck’s roof is fitted with solar panels, it doesn’t rely on a generator for power.
That is especially important to the couple when they bring their Jalopy to one of Mayo’s beaches or lakes: “No-one wants the noise pollution, never mind the environmental impact, when they’re out in nature.”
You may have seen the Jalopy Bar in the town centre, where it was set up for St. Patrick’s Day, for the 4-Day Walks celebration, and for the very successful Castlebar Summerfest.
“On Saturdays we can usually be found at the Castlebar Rugby Club," Wiebke said.
“Our first year has been extremely busy, and we’ve had more enquiries to be in different locations than we were able to deal with.”
For that reason, expansion is just around the corner for the family business: the second unit to join the fleet will soon be hitting the road, bringing the Jalopy’s signature blend of delicious coffee and friendly service to even more people.
Here’s to many years of brewing success, one cup at a time!
