Motorists caught speeding on busy Mayo route
Gardaí in Mayo have urged motorists to slow down after several drivers were detected travelling well above the speed limit during wet driving conditions on the N5 near Charlestown.
Members of the Mayo Roads Policing Unit carried out a series of speed checkpoints on Thursday evening, where a number of motorists were found exceeding the 100km/h limit.
Among those stopped was a campervan travelling at 137km/h, resulting in a €160 fine and three penalty points.
Two other drivers were detected at 141km/h and 143km/h respectively, both receiving the same penalties.
Gardaí are reminding all road users to take extra care on wet roads, reduce their speed, and “arrive alive.”
