Due recognition for unique Mayo motor cycle club
Na Fianna Motor Cycling Club is to be recognised with a Mayo People of the Year Award 2025 for its work.
Ireland, a land known for its lush landscapes and rich cultural heritage, has a fascinating and unique relationship with motorcycling.
The story of motorcycling dates back to the early 20th century.
The first motorcycles were imported into Ireland around 1902, and they quickly became a symbol of freedom and adventure.
These early bikes were basic, often without brakes or reliable engines but the represented the cutting edge of technology at the time.
The history of motorcycling is a tale of passion, community and evolution. It reflects the resilience; spirit of the Irish people and remains an integral part of Ireland’s cultural tapestry.
Founding members of Na Fianna MCC, Fiach Hyland, Brian Bourke and Neil Ward, are currently working on establishing a new club in Mayo to promote safe riding and community engagement in line with club governance.
The aim of Na Fianna MCC is to work with charities to raise funds for various causes, support social enterprises and provide community benefits in line with club governance.
These bikers have participated in many fundraising events along with other clubs to raise much needed funds for various charities around the county.
Beyond fundraising, their kindness extended to visiting fellow bikers who reside in residential settings by restoring hope, dignity and joy to those who need it most.
For the most part, living by the code is a matter of being respectful, helping others when you can, and trying to keep the peace.
It’s about staying true to yourself and being loyal to your fellow bikers.
Don’t make promises you don’t intend to keep, and always keep the promises you make.
The award will be presented at the Mayo People of the Year gala banquet at Breaffy House Hotel on Friday night next, November 21.
The event is organised by RehabCare, Mayo County Council and The Connaught Telegraph
