Tuesday weanling sales continue at Mayo mart

WEANLING sales continued at Balla Mart yesterday (Tuesday), with good trade and a lot more buyers around, and also some good calves for buyers.

Lighter bull calves under 200kg averaged €6.41/kg - up by 3 cent/kg on last week. Bulls 200kg to 350kg averaged €5.78/kg - up 4 cent/kg on last week. Bull weanlings 350kg to 450kg averaged 5.16/kg, while heavier bulls 450kg plus averaged €4.40/kg.

A February ‘25 Limousin bull weighing 445kg made €2,530 for a farmer from Aclare, Co. Sligo, who had some super bulls.

In the heifer ring, light stores under 200kg averaged €6.47/kg - up by 9 cent/kg on last week, while heifers 200kg to 350kg averaged €5.71/kg - up a whopping 50 cent/kg on last week.

There were fewer heavy heifers 350kg to 450kg and they averaged €5.91/kg.

A farmer from Belmullet had some super BB4438 heifers and one April born Belgian Blue weighing 320kg made €3,950 (€12.34/kg).
