Mayo islands need feedback on marine plan

THE communities on Clare Island and Inishturk need feedback on a new Mayo Marine Strategy and Implementation Plan 2025-2030 before it is debated further and adopted.

The request was made by Councillor Johnny O'Malley at the monthly meeting of Mayo County Council where the report was adjourned until December, when members will receive a presentation on it.

In advance of that, Councillor O'Malley said the islands have made submissions and they need feedback before it goes any further.

Clare Island and Inishturk are important for tourism in Mayo and it's important they know what's going on with the islands, he told management.

They are working hard in getting people to the islands and want to be fit to do this year round, especially as we now get more storms than before, and there's a few things they need done.

Councillor O'Malley requested that their submissions be addressed with a full report on what's going on before there's any further debate.
