Popular Mayo bar reopens
THERE is some good news in the south Mayo town of Ballinrobe as O’Malley’s Bar, Glebe Street, has reopened.
O’Malley’s Bar was established in April 1944 but has not been trading since 2015.
The renovated O’Malley’s Bar is run by Adrian O’Malley and his wife Amy, and they will have good support from their staff.
A lot of work has taken place at the venue in recent times and Adrian is delighted that the bar is set to reopen.
“We started the refurbishment of the bar in January of this year, and it is great to see that all that hard work is now complete. A lot of friends of mine are tradesmen, and they played a key role in the renovation work, and we are appreciative of that.”
Adrian and his wife Amy have received plenty of well-wishes ahead of the bar reopening.
“People in the town are looking forward to the bar reopening and the people that have spoken to Amy and myself seem to be excited that there is a new bar to go to.
“ The more pubs there are for people to go to will help the pub trade in Ballinrobe. This will lead to more people coming to visit Ballinrobe and stay in the town, and they now have more options.”
Adrian is already busy dealing with bookings.
“We have an area in the bar which can operate as a function room for any of the sports clubs or organisations in the town that wish to use it. We can also host birthday parties, and we already have several Christmas parties booked in.”
The front area of the premises will be a traditional stye bar and the walls are decorated with plenty of old photos and memorabilia. The back area of the bar can be divided into two sections and there is also a high-tech sound system for the various sporting events on TV. Adrian also explained that there is a fully functional kitchen on the premises.
“We have a fully functional kitchen which will be able to serve pizzas, and down the line we will also be able to serve chicken goujons, chips and other types of finger food.
“The area at the front is more of a traditional style bar, and the back section is more practical for functions. You can also close off one of the back sections of the bar where some people might want to watch a soccer match, and other people in the third area might want to watch another sport.
“There is also a good selection of zero alcohol beers, and we have a beer garden area which will be popular in the summer months."
O’Malley’s Bar will also be an option for people who might want to get some work done on their lunch break, whist enjoying a tea/coffee.
“We have a state-of-the-art coffee machine. Perhaps during the daytime, people might like to call in to the back section of the bar and have a coffee/scone and send off some emails for work on their lunch break.”
Adrian and Amy are wished every success in their new venture.
