Mayo GAA in mourning over death of the legendary Danny Dolan
The death of Michael Daniel (Danny) Dolan, Ballyglass, Scardaune, Claremorris, and formerly Pulbawn, Roundfort, is being mourned across the Mayo GAA fraternity.
He died peacefully yesterday at Mayo University Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
The deceased won six Mayo SFC titles with Garrymore GAA Club, including a three-in-a-row success.
He captained the team to two county titles in 1975 and 1979. He also won a Connacht Club championship medal in 1982.
In a tribute, Garrymore GAA Club said he was one of the main drivers of the team during those glory years.
He also trained and managed the team on different occasions and Danny held the role of club secretary in the 1970's and was elected club president in 2021.
He also played championship and league for Mayo.
Danny lined out for the Mayo Minors and Under 21s, winning a Connacht Under 21 title. He also trained the Claremorris Vocational School team that won a Connacht title.
In a tribute, Knockmore GAA Club stated: "Danny was held in high regard in our club and the sadness around his death was plain to be seen last night in the club as those who played against him held him in high esteem. May he rest in eternal peace."
Danny is sadly missed by his wife Rita, son John and daughter-in-law Claire, grandchildren Daniel and Kate, sisters Peggy and Mary, brothers Jimmy, Bernard and Louis, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins, neighbours and friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.
Reposing in Carey's Funeral Home, Ballindine, (F12A3C6) on Monday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.
Remains will arrive St. Patrick's Church Ballyglass, on Tuesday for Funeral Mass at 12 noon.
Burial takes place afterwards in Ballyglass Cemetery.
