HSE vows to upgrade Mayo stroke unit after outcry over its 'dire condition'
The HSE West has outlined plans to upgratde St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation and Stroke Unit at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Castlebar.
It follows a local outcry over the condition of the facility, as highlighted by Councillor Michael Kilcoyne and reported by The Connaught Telegraph.
Councillor Kilcoyne raised the issue at today's meeting of the HSE West Forum.
He asked that works be carried out, including painting, replacing damaged windows, repairing leaks, replacing decaying timber and replacing damaged floor covering, in the unit.
Councillor Kilcoyne also asked for a report to be prepared on the matter before Christmas following an inspection.
He was informed that the HSE maintenance service has met to review and progress the necessary works in St. Joseph’s Unit.
These works will include new flooring, painting, and the replacement of the old defective window.
