Warm tributes to Mayo school principal on his retirement
AFTER 16 years service at the helm at Scoil Íosa National School in Ballyhaunis, principal Kenneth Dennedy is retiring.
Many warm tributes have been paid to him for his leadership and dedication to the school community, pupils and staff.
Among them was Fr. Stephen Farragher who shared on his Facebook page: Kenneth Dennedy was appointed principal of Scoil Íosa N.S. in September 2009. After 16 years of sterling service he has decided now is the right time to retire.
He leaves a legacy defined by kindness, leadership, and unwavering dedication to the children and families of Ballyhaunis.
From the moment he first stepped through the doors of Scoil Íosa, Kenneth brought with him a kindness that put children instantly at ease and an approachability that made every parent feel supported and heard. His office was never a barrier; it was an open door - an invitation to share concerns, celebrate achievements, or simply chat.
Kenneth’s leadership has been exceptional. He has guided his staff with respect, encouragement, and genuine care, creating a working environment where everyone could flourish. His steady presence and thoughtful direction helped the school navigate challenges and embrace opportunities with ease.
One of his most visible achievements has been his commitment to improving the physical environment of Scoil Íosa. Through his drive and determination, the school has seen extensive building and refurbishment - transformations that now provide the children of the parish with brighter, safer, and more modern facilities. These improvements stand as a lasting testament to his vision and tireless effort.
Equally important has been his dedication to the Catholic ethos of the school. Kenneth has nurtured the spiritual life of Scoil Íosa with sincerity and conviction. His presence at parish celebrations - First Confessions, First Eucharist, and Confirmation - has always been a reassuring one. He stood not only as principal, but as a true partner in the faith journey of each child.
As Kenneth steps into retirement, we celebrate a career marked by compassion, integrity, and service. His influence will continue to echo in the hallways, classrooms, and hearts of all who have been part of Scoil Íosa during the past sixteen years.
