Mayo players on duty in FAI Schools Under 18 Boys’ Interprovincial Tournament
THE 2025 FAI Schools Under 18 Boys’ Interprovincial Tournament kicked off with victories for Leinster and Munster in FAI HQ, Abbotstown, on opening night (Friday).
Defending champions Connacht fell to a 3-1 defeat against Munster.
Mayo schools are well represented on the Connacht panel which features Jamie O’Malley and Conor Whittker (Rice College, Westport), Luca Oran Murphy (Balla Secondary School), Daire O’Connor (St. Muredach’s College, Ballina) and Ross Ruane Dalton (Ballyhaunis Community School).
Leinster put in a dominate display to see off their challengers with an impressive 3-1 win, while Ulster will be frustrated with themselves for not converting some great opportunities in front of goal.
In the second outing of the evening, it was defending champions Connacht up against 2022 and 2023 title holders Munster, a tie where Munster led 2-0 at the break.
Unfortunately, there was little hope of a Connacht resurgence when Munster went three up, three minutes into the restart, and while Lúc Griallais (Coláiste an Eachréídh, Athenry) netted to make it 1-3, Munster’s sharp attacking style worked and they saw out a hard fought victory.
This afternoon will see Munster up against Ulster at 3 p.m. while Leinster take on Connacht at 4.30 p.m. An important outing for all teams as they seek to snatch the valubale two point victories on offer.
