Work starts on first Columbarium wall at Mayo graveyard
WORK has officially begun on constructing Mayo’s first Columbarium wall.
The Columbarium, to accommodate cremated remains, is being built at Crossmolina Graveyard.
A number of other cemeteries around the county are also seeking similar facilities as more people opt for cremation.
Local Councillor Michael Loftus, on his social media, welcomed the start of the works in Crossmolina Graveyard, describing it as 'a historic step for our county and community'.
He extended thanks to the graveyard committee for their dedication and collaboration throughout this journey, with special appreciation to Mayo County Council's retired director of services, John Condon, whose unwavering support ensured Crossmolina was chosen, even when other locations were competing.
Councillor Loftus also extended thanks to Tom McDonnell and Seamus Giblin for their expertise in designing a beautiful Columbarium.
“This is a great day for Crossmolina,” he stated.
