Uisce Éireann working to restore water in west Mayo

Update, 4 p.m. Sunday: Water supply is returning to customers in Westport after Uisce Éireann crews successfully completed repairs to a significant burst on a water main.

Following investigative works earlier today, teams were able to isolate and repair the affected section, allowing supply to be restored to a number of impacted customers along the Ballinrobe Road.

Water and water pressure should return to all customers over the course of this evening and tonight.

UISCE Éireann crews are responding to an overnight burst main in the Sandyhill area of Westport which has impacted supply to customers in the area this morning.

A number of customers along the Ballinrobe Road will be without water until late afternoon/evening as a result of this unplanned outage.

Other areas of Westport, particularly those on high ground, may experience low water pressure until water is fully restored.

Crews are on site this morning with the repair.

It can take two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges.

Caroline Scahill of Uisce Éireann said crews will work as quickly as possible to repair the burst main and restore supply to normal levels.

“We acknowledge the impact of an unplanned outage, and we want to thank affected customers for their patience while we work to restore supply,” said Caroline.

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.

Customers can keep informed through the Uisce Éireann website, via X @IWCare, and the customer care helpline which is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278.
