Restoration will take place on Mayo street after cables work

REINSTATEMENT works will be taking place on Altamount Street in Westport after power cables are brought to the convent redevelopment project in the area.

The main contract works on the convent site commenced in October (27-month contract) and a contract to bring a medium voltage electrical supply from Tesco to the site commenced last week, with works expected to be complete around now.

While it's great to see the convent project up and running, there is an issue with the state of the road, Councillor Peter Flynn told a municipal meeting.

Works have to happen to put down the cables but the road is like a bomb site, and it can't be left like that for the winter period, he said.

He was told 90% of the work for the ducting is done and trench reinstatement will follow.
