Accidents continue at Achill's three bridges

SAFETY at the three bridges at Cashel in Achil remains a top priority for Councillor Paul McNamara.

He has asked for an update on a funding application for the location - has one been forwarded yet.

Councillor McNamara, at a municipal meeting, acknowledged that road markings to alert motorists to danger were put in place this year. However, a number of accidents have still occurred.

“It's beyond me how this project can not be prioritised,” stated Councillor McNamara.

There was a ministerial visit two years ago when they were told if an application was submitted, funding would be given for the reconstruction of the bridges.

“How it could take two years to get an application in is beyond me,” he added.

Even with the markings there has been numerous accidents and it will be too late when there has been a serious accident.
