€2.36 million in Beef Welfare Scheme Payments for Mayo farmers
Minister of State Alan Dillon TD has welcomed confirmation that payments under the Beef Welfare Scheme 2025 have commenced, with 2,558 farmers in Mayo receiving €2,368,802 in support for their herds.
Nationally, over €28.07 million is issuing to 24,214 participating farmers, supporting 450,895 calves across the country.
The Beef Welfare Scheme 2025 is designed to improve the economic efficiency of suckler farms while enhancing animal health and husbandry.
Farmers who complete all scheme actions will receive €67 per calf, subject to a maximum overall payment of €3,015 (45 calves), an increase of €1,015 compared to the 2024 scheme.
Minister Dillon stated: “This is a significant boost for farm families in Mayo, with over €2.36 million now flowing directly into the local economy. Payments will be visible in farmers’ bank accounts in the coming days. Delivering these supports quickly is crucial for the beef sector and for rural communities and remains a key priority for the Department.”
He added: “I would remind farmers that if they have received a request to submit meal feeding, vaccination or testing documentation, they should return them as soon as possible to ensure smooth processing.”
Concluding, Minister Dillon confirmed: “A further €28 million has been secured by my colleague, Minister Heydon for the continuation of this scheme, or a similar scheme, in 2026. Discussions with farming organisations are already underway to ensure its delivery.”
