Mayo FC set to be confirmed for historic entry into League of Ireland

Mayo is on the brink of hosting League of Ireland football for the first time in its history, with confirmation of Mayo FC’s successful application to the new third tier expected imminently.

Letters of acceptance are due to issue to all approved applicants shortly, formally establishing the line-up for the emerging division, which is scheduled to kick off in autumn 2026 on a condensed calendar.

Initial indications had suggested the league would be split into two regionalised ten-team divisions (North and South).

The number of successful applicants nationwide is yet to be understood.

However, the Connaught Telegraph understands that Mayo FC has secured its place outright and will be among the newly announced clubs competing in what is shaping up to be an exciting new chapter for Irish football.
