Update on masterplan for Mayo beauty spot

A TENDER to bring in expertise to support a development plan for Achill beauty spot Keel is being evaluated by Fáilte Ireland.

Councillor Paul McNamara requested an update on the masterplan, which was the subject of public consultation a number of months ago in Keel Hall.

It's a big tourist destination and locals shared their views, he told a municipal meeting, and they were wondering when a plan will be put to the community to see the improvements being proposed for Keel.

Director of services Joanne Grehan said the first step in the process was for Fáilte Ireland to go to tender to bring on board expertise to support the development of a plan. That tender is currently being evaluated.

She would liaise with Fáilte Ireland to set out what the next steps will be and when the next community consultation will take place, with an update for the December municipal meeting.
