Dillon welcomes Local Enhancement Programme funding for Mayo
Minister of State, Alan Dillon TD, has welcomed funding of €217,741 under the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht’s Local Enhancement Programme (LEP) 2026.
The funding has been allocated to Mayo County Council and will provide vital capital supports to community and voluntary groups across the county.
The programme is designed to strengthen local facilities and services, with a particular focus on:
Small capital works and improvements to community spaces.
Purchase of equipment for community use.
Enhancing accessibility for persons with disabilities.
Supporting disadvantaged and marginalised groups to participate fully in community life.
Improving energy efficiency in community facilities to reduce ongoing costs.
Funding will be available to a wide range of organisations including community centres, parish halls, and local voluntary groups, ensuring that local priorities are identified and met.
Minister Dillon said: “I am delighted to welcome this allocation of over €217,000 for Mayo under the Local Enhancement Programme.
This funding will make a real difference to the many voluntary and community groups who work tirelessly to support people across our towns and villages.
The LEP is about empowering communities, helping them to improve facilities, purchase essential equipment, and create inclusive spaces where everyone feels welcome.
In Mayo, this will mean better supports for disadvantaged groups, improved accessibility, and more sustainable community facilities.”
“I want to acknowledge the dedication of local volunteers and organisations who give so much of their time and energy to strengthen community life.
This funding is a recognition of their efforts and will ensure they have the resources needed to continue their invaluable work.
I also commend Mayo County Council and our Local Community Development Committee for their role in administering this scheme and ensuring that funding reaches the groups who need it most.
Together, we are building stronger, more vibrant communities across Mayo,” concluded Minister Dillon.
