Plans for bypass of busy Mayo town on N84 route 'back on track'
Plans for a bypass of Ballinrobe town centre are 'back on track'.
That's according to local Councillor Damian Ryan.
He stated: "It has gone from phase zero to phase one.
"The council is hoping for an allocation in the New Year.
"The infrastructure to deal with the town's traffic congestion has been on the agenda for many years."
Ballinrobe is located on the busy N84 national secondary road, part of the the route linking Castlebar with Galway city.
The bypass plan would help to significantly reduce journey times between the two locations as well as improving traffic and pedestrian safety in Ballinrobe.
The new road is proposed for the east of the town, traversing and connecting the R334 Neale Road, N84 Headford/Galway Road, R331 Claremorris road and the N60 Castlebar Road
A preferred route was ratified by Mayo County Council in 2009.
Following this approval, the route was included in the Ballinrobe Local Area Development Plan.
The route remains protected for planning purposes to safeguard the line of the proposed road from any development that could prejudice the construction and safe operation of the road.
The design process will resume when funding becomes available.
