Mayo councillor calls for roadside ash dieback survey

A ROADSIDE ash dieback survey is needed.

Councillor Al McDonnell made the suggestion at a Castlebar Municipal District meeting, saying the disease has affected a serious number of trees, many of which are along the road.

And they just fall without any encouragement from wind or rain or other conditions.

He asked for a survey and extensive funding to rectify the situation, warning that someone is going to be killed by an ash tree.

Councillor McDonnell was told the matter will be followed up with the roads department.
