Mayo community grieves passing of national school vice principal
The death has occurred peacefully at the North West Hospice of Deirdre Gillespie (née McDermott) Powellsborough, Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo.
She died after a short illness borne with courage and dignity.
The deceased, a much-loved and respected personality, was vice principal of Scoil Íosa, Carracastle.
News of her passing has evoked a tremendous sense of loss in the east Mayo community.
Predeceased by her parents Christina and Séamus, she is deeply missed by her heartbroken family: Ciara, Aoife, Ruairí and her husband Pauric, siblings Rufina (Joe) and Michael (Celia) (Breaffy), nephews Kenneth, Stephen, Paul, Niall, relatives, neighbours, friends, colleagues and pupils and extended McDermott and Gillespie families.
Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved on their loss.
Deirdre will repose at her home in Powellsborough on Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. and 6.30 to 9 p.m.
Removal from her residence on Saturday morning to St. Patrick’s Church, Moylough for Funeral Mass at 11 a.m.
Burial takes place afterwards in Rhue Cemetery.
