Move to designate long-neglected Mayo R312 roadway as 'strategic'
"It's the only way it will get the funding it needs"
A concerned move is being made to have Mayo's long-neglected R312 route designated as 'a regional strategic route'.
The R312 is the main road connecting Erris to the county town of Castlebar.
Deputy Rose Conway-Walsh wants the designation "because that is the only way it will get the funding it needs."
"It is a dangerous road. People have put up with it for years but it is time for it to be fixed," she added.
Deputy Conway Walsh raised the matter directly with An Taoiseach Micheál Martin.
He promised to engage with the Minister for Transport Darragh O'Brien in respect of her query.
