Mayo councillors welcome start of works on Western Rail Corridor

THE start of clearance works to reopen the Western Rail Corridor between Athenry and Claremorris has been welcomed by Independent south Mayo Councillors Patsy O'Brien and Richard Finn.

On-the-ground works have begun at Tuam Station, marking a significant milestone in reopening the rail line.

Vegetation clearance and preparation of the rail bed are currently underway as part of the early enabling works for the Athenry to Claremorris section of the line, Councillor Patsy O'Brien explained.

In a statement, Councillors O’Brien and Finn welcomed the latest progress on the long-awaited restoration of the Western Rail Corridor, having been committed members of the Western Inter-Rail Committee and advocates for the project for the past 25 years.
