Move to address regeneration and issues with bus stops in Mayo town
An appeal has been made for the implementation of a plan for the urgent regeneration of Bridge Street in Ballinrobe town.
Local Councillor Michael Burke elaborated: “Bridge Street is probably the blackspot of Ballinrobe, and I think it is time that we had a masterplan for that whole street."
Councillor Burke is also seeking the transfer of the existing bus stops from their current congested locations in the town centre, at Glebe Street and Main Street, and proposed that Mayo County Council install a number of designated loading bays.
“We have a problem with buses stopping in the middle of the road and not pulling into the designated space. There was one occasion recently where a bus held up traffic for up to five minutes.
"The sooner the bus stops are moved out of there the better for the free flow of traffic in Ballinrobe.
“We have delivery vans arriving from early morning and maybe if they had designated loading bays that would make things that little bit easier.”
