Additional accommodation request for Mayo school

MINISTER of State Alan Dillon has welcomed confirmation that the Department of Education is in receipt of an application from Scoil Íosa, Ballyhaunis, under the Additional School Accommodation (ASA) Scheme.

The scheme is designed to ensure that schools have the necessary infrastructure to meet the needs of their pupils. Its primary purpose is to provide essential mainstream classroom accommodation and facilities for pupils with special educational needs where existing school accommodation cannot cater for current or projected enrolments.

Minister Dillon said: “I am pleased to confirm that Scoil Íosa’s application for additional accommodation is being actively considered by the department.

“This scheme plays a vital role in supporting schools to deliver high-quality education in a suitable learning environment. I will continue to work closely with Minister Naughton and the department to ensure that the needs of Scoil Íosa and its pupils are fully addressed.”

Minister Dillon also acknowledged the recent leadership transition at Scoil Íosa. “I would like to congratulate Kevin Henry on his appointment as principal of Scoil Íosa and thank Kenneth Dennedy for his outstanding service and dedication over the past 16 years.”

He said he would continue to engage with Councillor Alma Gallagher while also reiterating his commitment to supporting educational infrastructure across Mayo, ensuring that schools have the resources required to provide inclusive and modern learning spaces.
