Design work progressing on west Mayo water scheme extension
DESIGN work for the water extension to Louisburgh is well underway.
An estimated construction completion date of Q4 2028 has been set but it is felt it will be completed before that.
The update on the scheme by head of water services and rural water, Michael Heneghan, was welcomed by councillors at a Westport-Belmullet Municipal District meeting.
He explained that the project is at design stage. Uisce Éireann have completed the initial workshops and it is hoped to have the preliminary design stage completed by the end of this year.
The estimated construction completion date is Q4 of 2028.
A number of land wayleaves need to be resolved for booster stations, Mr. Heneghan explained. And he was told the 2028 figure is a 'safe estimate' and it's highly likely the scheme will be completed before that.
Local Councillor Chris Maxwell was delighted to hear the scheme is in the design stage, and he looked forward to the R312 being completed after it.
Councillor Peter Flynn agreed that it is critical to get this extension completed and the progress is welcome.
