Vehicle seized after multiple offences detected at checkpoint on busy Mayo route
A vehicle was seized by Gardaí during a high-visibility checkpoint on the N17 near Kilkelly as part of the ongoing Mayo Roads Policing Christmas Road Safety Enforcement Campaign.
The checkpoint, which was carried out with the assistance of the Road Safety Authority, formed part of increased Garda activity aimed at improving safety on Mayo roads during the busy festive period.
During the operation, Gardaí stopped a vehicle and carried out checks using Active Mobility technology linked to the national insurance database.
These checks revealed that the vehicle was not insured and that the driver did not hold a valid driving licence.
Gardaí also established that the vehicle had no motor tax, which had been expired for more than three years, and no valid NCT.
As a result of the findings, the vehicle was seized at the scene. Gardaí have confirmed that court proceedings will follow in relation to the offences detected.
A Garda spokesperson said the Christmas period is traditionally one of the busiest times on Irish roads and also one of the most dangerous, with a heightened risk of fatal and serious road traffic collisions.
