Family homes plan for three derelict units in Mayo county town

THREE derelict properties at Barrack Bridge in Castlebar are to be refurbished as family homes by Mayo County Council.

They won't be demolished and rebuilt, members of a housing committee meeting were told after Councillor Michael Kilcoyne asked what's happening with them.

Senior architect Simon Wall said they are looking at refurbishment as opposed to demolish and rebuild, and layouts have been completed and are with the planning section.

It is hoped they won't require a Part 8 planning application, which would speed up the process.

They will be more family houses, as opposed to the one-bed residential units that have been developed further on at Charles Street Lower.

This, said Mr. Wall, will encourage multi-generational occupancy on the street.
