"Saving the hay, cutting the turf, fetching water from the well, church on Sundays – such happy times especially in our formative years ‘back home on the farm’ in the 60's and 70's.

"Always a smiling face and memorable turn of phrase, you lived your life as a true Irishman, strong-willed but so very generous in every way.

"You have left such strong and powerful memories with all of us and you will always be in our hearts."

Martin will repose at Kilcoyne’s Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar on Monday from 6.30 p.m. with prayers at 8 p.m.

The funeral will arrive at the Church of the Holy Rosary Castlebar, on Tuesday at 9.45 a.m., for Funeral Mass at 10.00 a.m.

After Mass, Martin will be laid to rest with his parents in the Old Cemetery, Castlebar.
