North Mayo canal walk extension plan approved

A PART 8 planning application for a proposed extension to the canal walk adjacent to Canal House in Belmullet has been approved by Mayo County Council.

The proposed works will extend the existing canal-side pathway along Pearse Street from the foot bridge to the vehicular bridge. It will also see the creation of a landscaped amenity space adjacent to Canal House.

The works involve surfacing a 120-metre section of the trail along with the installation of safety railings and public lighting.

No submissions were received were received when the plans were published for public feedback.

Councillor Sean Carey proposed its adoption, saying the project will finish the walk started there a number of years ago.
