Works on Mayo village traffic safety project to take 18 months
Mayo Minister of State Alan Dillon has welcomed the progression of works on the €4.2 million Breaffy Active Travel and Safety Measures Scheme.
He stated: "This stretch of road has seen tragic fatalities in the past, with families deeply affected, and those losses underline why improving safety there is so important.
"The 4.2 km upgrade will deliver new footpaths, safer junctions and a continuous walking and cycling route between Castlebar and Breaffy, improving safety for families, students and commuters.
"A sum of €1.8 million of this investment is dedicated specifically to pedestrian and cycling improvements, something the Breaffy community has been calling for over many years.
"I worked closely with Breaffy Community Council to ensure this project was delivered and, with construction taking place over the next 18 months, it will provide safer journeys to school, better access to local amenities, and stronger connections between Breaffy, Castlebar and the wider area.
"It's a real step forward for safer roads, greener travel and stronger communities."
