Burnley midfielder Josh Cullen has been ruled out of the Republic of Ireland's World Cup play-offs with an ACL tear.

Cullen suffered the injury in Burnley's draw to Everton last weekend.

Following Burnley's defeat to Newcastle on Tuesday night, manager Scott Parker confirmed he would be out for several months.

“Normally, it's about nine months, so we are looking at that for now. It's a huge blow for us on and off the pitch."

Cullen was first choice for Ireland in midfield through the qualifying campaign as they pipped Hungary to second place in dramatic fashion.

They will play Czechia in Prague on March 26th, and would face either Denmark or North Macedonia in the playoff final on March 29th at the Aviva Stadium.
