Man dies from injuries sustained in Mayo border town assault
Man in his 40s remanded in custody at Roscommon at Roscommon District Court today
Gardaí are continuing to investigate the serious assault that occurred in Ballaghadereen, Co. Roscommon, in the early hours of last Thursday morning.
The male, aged in his 30s who was brought to Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, with critical injuries following the incident, has since passed away.
A man, aged in his 40s, who was arrested in connection with the investigation, has been charged.
He appeared before a special sitting of Roscommon District Court this morning.
The court was informed that the State was awaiting further directions from the DPP.
The court heard the defendant was in the country for approximately 20 months and added there were a number of independent witnesses who had yet to make statements.
Refusing a bail application request, Judge James Faughnan remanded the defendant in custody to appear before Ballaghaderreen District Court on Friday next, January 9.
