Massive blow to top Mayo football club as star striker departs

Castlebar Celic, the defending Connaught Cup and Mayo Super League champions, has suffered a massive blow with the loss of star striker Jordan Loftus.

Loftus, a recipient of the Mayo Footballer of the Year and Golden Boot awards, is leaving Mayo to start a new life in Australia.

A post on the club's Facebook page features the club chairman Padraig Cresham and senior team captain Ioseph O'Reilly making a special presentation to Jordan as he prepares for his new adventure.

It stated: "Everyone at the club is truly sad to see him go.

"It’s never easy losing a club legend, but Jordan leaves behind so many unforgettable memories that will be cherished for years to come.

"Best of luck, Jordan – thank you for everything, and safe travels."
