Tributes to retired Mayo University Hospital nurse Peggy McNulty

The death of Margaret (Peggy) McNulty, Marian Row, Castlebar, and formerly of Cloonainra, Swinford, has evoked a great sense of loss in the community.

She died peacefully yesterday in the presence of her loving family and in the wonderful care of the staff of Cuan Chatríona Nursing Home, Castlebar.

A retired member of the nursing staff of Mayo University Hospital, she was held in high esteem by work colleagues and patients alike for her professionalism and dedication.

Warm tributes are paid to the deceased on social media.

Noel Brett, a former manager of the hospital, described the deceased as 'a true lady and she always had time to chat and laugh'.

Another tribute stated: "It was a privilege to have known Peggy, a wonderful human being and much loved colleague."

Her neighbours at Marian Row have also joined in expressing their sense of loss, one stating she will be greatly missed on the street, having resided there for many decades.

Peggy was a member of Castlebar Golf Club for a number of years after her retirement.

Predeceased by her parents Patrick and Mary McNulty and her sisters and brothers, she is deeply regretted and sadly missed by her loving sister Angela (New York), sister-in-law Margaret (Limerick), nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and many close friends, to whom sympathy is extended.

The family has thanked the Atlantic Care Team, the Social Centre Team, Castlebar and all the staff of Cuan Chatriona who took such great care of Peggy.

She will be reposing at Coady's Funeral Home, Castlebar, tomorrow evening (Tuesday) from 5.30 to 7 p.m. with removal afterwards to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.

Requiem Mass takes place on Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock with burial afterwards in Kilconduff Cemetery, Rathscanlon, Swinford.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.
