Busy Mayo street is likened to New York's 'Fifth Avenue'

A busy street in Mayo has been likened to 'Fifth Avenue' in New York.

Concerns about danger from traffic on Emmett Street, Ballina, has been highlighted by local Councillor Annie May Reape.

Emmett Street is like going down Fifth Avenue, she said.

With two crossings, if you're on the left lane and a person walks out to the middle, the person in the right lane doesn't see them standing there, Councillor Reape explained.

The route needs ramps and also for the gardaí to do occasional checks at the location.

She highlighted how busy the route is bringing people by the cathedral and out to Bonniconlon and Tubbercurry.
