Premiere screening in Mayo of 'Ireland West Camino: A Pilgrimage Reborn'
The Tochar Valley Rural Community Network, Inchanted Journeys, and Breiter Films has announced that the much-anticipated feature film documentary, Ireland West Camino: A Pilgrimage Reborn, will make its Ireland premiere screening at Mayo Movie World, Castlebar, on Thursday, January 22, at 6 p.m.
Admission is free though a donation box will be available at the door. All are welcome.
A collaborative Irish and American effort to revitalize the Bronze Age pilgrimage route followed by St Patrick in the 5th century from Rathcroghan to Croagh Patrick, came to fruition in the summer of 2024 when 20 pilgrims walked the entire 170 km route over eight days - arriving at Croagh Patrick on Garland Sunday last July with thousands of other pilgrims from around the world.
This feature length film (1.5-hour) documentary follows the pilgrims’ spiritual journey across the west of Ireland on what was historically known in the early Christian era as the Tóchar Phádraig, as they are embraced by the rich natural and cultural heritage of counties Roscommon, Sligo and Mayo.
From iconic cinematography of the landscape and Trad sessions to local mythology and listening to the pulse of ancient sacred sites along the way, the pilgrims’ deeper calling to the ancient path is revealed in a powerful story of turning darkness into light.
